The Stomach Ulcer Test is a non-invasive diagnostic test designed to detect the presence of Helicobacter pylori bacteria, which are often the cause of various gastrointestinal disorders. H. pylori infections are primarily associated with ulcers, and chronic gastritis, and can elevate the risk of stomach cancer. Early detection through this test enables targeted treatment strategies to eradicate the bacteria and alleviate symptoms.

What is Tested?

Blood (Antibody test)
This test detects the antibodies formed in response to an H. pylori infection, which means it cannot differentiate between past and current infections. Antibodies can remain in the blood for a significant period even after successful treatment of the infection. It is not suitable to confirming treatment

Stool (Antigen test)
It is more reliable for confirming the eradication of the bacteria after treatment or for confirmation of infection, as it directly indicates the current presence or absence of the bacteria. It is considered a more accurate test but sample collection can be messier.

Who Needs This Test?
This test is important for individuals:

Experiencing Gastrointestinal Symptoms

Such as chronic stomach pain, bloating, nausea, or frequent burping.

With a History of Peptic Ulcers

Individuals who have had ulcers before are often recommended to take the test to check for the presence of H. pylori.

Undergoing Treatment for H. pylori infection

To determine the effectiveness of the treatment.

With a Family History

Of stomach cancer or other gastrointestinal disorders related to H. pylori.

Pre-test Preparation/s

Avoid Antibiotics or Bismuth Medications

If possible, refrain from taking antibiotics or bismuth medications for two weeks prior to the test as they can affect the test results.
