What is DoxyPEP?

It involves taking a prescribed dose of doxycycline after sex to lower your chances of acquiring certain bacterial infections, such as syphilis, chlamydia, and in some cases, gonorrhoea.

DoxyPEP is not a substitute for HIV PrEP but can be used alongside it for broader protection.

How does DoxyPEP work? ➕

Doxycycline is an antibiotic that prevents bacteria from multiplying in the body.

When taken shortly after exposure, it can help stop the establishment of common bacterial STIs.

Effectiveness ✅

• Studies show DoxyPEP can reduce the risk of syphilis and chlamydia by up to 70% in certain populations.
  

• It may also provide partial protection against gonorrhoea, though effectiveness is lower.
  

• It does not protect against HIV, viral STIs (herpes, HPV, hepatitis), or pregnancy.
